Caroline, can you share with us who are your must follows in the industry to stay up to date?
"Kamala Alcantara, Bernard Marr, Welcome to the Metaverse podcast, Markets Daily podcast, Web3 with A16z, Amanda Johnstone and CoinDesk Decrypt.
What resources were pivotal in starting your career in crypto?
"Hands on experience, industry knowledge, mentorship and engaging in professional networks."
Everyone's talking about Web3. What’s your bold take on its future?
"A bold prediction for the future of Web3 and AI is the rise of a fully autonomous, decentralised digital economy, where AI algorithms manage everything from finance to governance without human intervention. This would lead to transparent, self-governing digital communities, dramatically transforming how we interact with digital content and each other, ensuring privacy, reducing fraud, and empowering users with unprecedented control over their digital identities and economic activities."
You've been involved in some amazing projects. Is there one that stands out for you?
"My work in promoting ZED RUN at Virtually Human Studio has solidified my understanding of and role in Web3, introducing me to many incredible people in the space. Leveraging these connections, I've dedicated myself to educating the masses and empowering women through initiatives like Kalicoo and Chief Meta Chicks. My focus is on providing the necessary resources, mentorship, and support for women to confidently step into and excel within the Web3 realm, highlighting my commitment to fostering diversity and inclusion in the tech industry."
What excites you the most about working in the Web3 space?
"Web3 is a major disruptor to traditional models because it's about creators and owners. There are endless potential and opportunities. It is still so early, but the technology exists and its evolution will pave the way for groundbreaking advancements. Blockchain, AI, and the Metaverse are not just buzzwords but gateways to decentralisation and empowering people. It's being developed to give people a sense of purpose around ownership, whether that’s of a digital horse or an avatar, entertainment, health data, banking details, money etc. My role in communications allows me to demystify the complexities, and break down barriers and stigmas that often surround new technologies. By simplifying and articulating the tangible benefits of Web3 and AI, we can foster a more inclusive understanding and adoption, ensuring these technologies truly benefit everyone."
What do you find to be the most challenging aspect of working in Web3, and how do you navigate these challenges?
"Defining the benefits of Web3/AI for anyone not working in the industry. Web3 is still considered an emerging setting, AI is a much more tangible concept - especially with the launch of ChatGPT, Sora, Apple Vision Pro etc. Most people can see it, they're aware, they just don't know how to get to it and there's still scepticism about what it is because we're so early. One of the original intentions for creating games on blockchain was to invite people and brands to enter the space in a way that was fun and engaging. Virtually Human has been doing this since 2019, with their flagship game ZED RUN. The popularity of a breathing NFT caught the attention of many people and iconic brands and gave us a platform to educate first-time users on how to engage, set up and secure a wallet and track their assets. Lastly, navigating the fluid regulatory landscape of Web3 and AI poses its unique challenges, like everything in Web3 if you're interested in learning, you have to be proactive and remain informed about legal changes and policy discussions. Regulation and standardisation is the unknown, but it has to come in some way, shape or form."
What advice would you give to other women aspiring to enter and make an impact in the AI or Web3 industry?
"Step into your power! The future is here and we are early - this is our time to be at the forefront of a new frontier. Engage, learn, network and innovate. Don't get left behind!"
